Application Process

Application Instructions

The DC LEAP Application* has two sections, one for the student and one for the school.

Section A: To be completed by Students

  • Complete and sign Page A of the application.
  • Attach a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR).
  • Submit the application, SAR, and postcard to your school's financial aid office.

Section B: To be completed by School

  • Complete and sign Page B of the application.
  • Send the application and SAR to DC Leap:

    441 4th Street, NW
    Suite 350
    Washington DC 20001

Application Review

DC LEAP sends each applicant a written notice once we receive the application* and SAR from the school.

DC LEAP applicants receive an estimated award based on the enrollment information provided on the application, including credit load and academic standing. If the student increases or decreases credit hours, the award may be adjusted.

Institutions provide enrollment verification to DC LEAP in September. When we receive this information, we begin the process of submitting payments to the schools. This process is repeated for the second semester beginning in January.

Transferring Schools

Students who decide to attend a different school after filing for LEAP, must submit a new application to the new school so Side B can be completed by the Financial Aid Officer.

Only one application per student is processed. Students who wait until the end of the summer to inform LEAP about a school change may find their LEAP grant canceled.

Key Facts

There are some important facts to keep in that will help students to successfully complete a LEAP application.
